Pink & Black at The Grounds

Pink & Black at The Grounds 10

Last weekend, the Mothership & I had to drop the Boss Man at the airport at an ungodly hour on a Sunday morning for his flight to Singapore so we decided, since we were (kind of) in the neighbourhood & all, that we would have breakfast at The Grounds of Alexandria. To those who’ve never been to The Grounds, it is a bit of an experience. There are a few restaurants around an open air courtyard, filled with stalls selling freshly made pastries & lemonade, fresh fruit & cured meats. There’s a florist spilling over with flowers & vines & plants scaling a greenhouse in the centre. It really is quite the experience. I’ve been here a couple of times (I’m not a regular, purely because of the insane queues – you have to get there early) & last time I came for lunch. This time around though, I wanted to be wowed by their breakfast menu & to say I was is the understatement of the year! The Mothership ordered the granola which came in a bowl overflowing with fruit & edible flowers. Honestly it looked so pretty it was almost  too beautiful to eat! I ordered the berry hotcake with mascarpone, agave & puffed quinoa. It was amazing. Served in the iron skillet it’s cooked it, it was like one big, fluffy pancake, covered in fresh berries, micro herbs, a good dollop of the most luxurious mascarpone & drizzled with agave & dotted with puffed quinoa. I, unfortunately, couldn’t finish it – it is one hell of a serve – but boy would I recommend it!
