101 in 1001

101 in 1001

This is a pretty popular post on blogs & I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t come up with the idea all on my lonesome. It originally appeared on Mackenzie Horan’s blog & after reading through a couple iterations, I decided I wanted to give it a go.

The main gist of 101 in 1001 is to come up with a list of 101 goals that all (hopefully) have to be completed in 1001 days which is around 2.75 years. It’s kind of a perfect medium between a long-term to-do list & a lifelong bucket list. Those goals can be really big goals (starting your own business) or they can be smaller goals (host a proper dinner party).

I hope that by the end of my 1001 days I’m a more skilled, confident, well-rounded, happy human being & that I’m safe in the knowledge that whilst completing all of my goals has contributed to my life experience that I’m also thankful for completing the journey as well.

So, without further ado, here are my 101 goals:

1. Come up with 101 things
2. Publish one new blog post every weekday for an entire month {Done! It was tricky to do, especially with a full-time job at the same time. I’ve cut back on posting everyday though since to keep the posts high quality}
4. Run 5K without stopping
5. Take a vacation/getaway with my girlfriends
6. Go to at least three music concerts {Done! 3/3 – Canned Heat at the Basement, Taylor Swift at the Olympic Stadium & Coldplay at the Moore Park Stadium}
7. Get a job in the music industry {Done! I worked for Universal Music Publishing Group last year & am now working for an even cooler music tech startup now!}
8. Host a giveaway on my blog
9. Upgrade my camera to a new fancy one (& figure out how to use it!) {This was a funny one, I decided not to upgrade my whole camera per se, but instead just find a new lens for it & this is how my photos look now!}
10. Learn to drive manual
11. Go skiing
12. Read 10 classic books {in progress: 5/10 – Breakfast At Tiffany’s by Truman Capote, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeck, The Murders In The Rue Morgue by Edgar Allen Poe}
13. Learn which blood type I am
14. Take a Polaroid picture of things that make me happy once a month for a year {in progress: Polaroid camera bought & 2017 is the year I’m doing this!}
15. Have a picnic in the park
16. Cook duck, bread dumplings and red cabbage Czech-style
17. Make planning my outfits for work the night before a habit {i.e. do it for at least a month & keep going} {Done! This has actually turned into such a useful habit!}
18. Create a budget for myself & stick to it {Done! The budget I’m following is the 50:30:20 rule, check it out for yourself}
19. Go to a drive-in movie theatre
20. Run an actual 5K {I recently ran a half marathon (21.1 K!) Does that count? }
21. Do a spin class {I just did an amazing one at Scenic Cycle where we “traveled” along the Umbrail Pass!}
22. Take 3 cooking classes on 3 different types of cooking {In progress: 2/3 – ‘Autumn Seafood Brunch’ class at Williams-Sonoma, cooking crab cakes with poached eggs, smoked salmon & hollandaise sauce; I did another Williams-Sonoma class, ‘Spring Salads’ where we made a delicious gourmet tuna nicoise salad & a Lebanese fattoush}
23. Go a whole month without any chocolate {January was a very sad month in this regard, but goal accomplished!}
24. Work out for a minimum of 2 times per week for 2 months {Done! I recently started seeing a personal trainer & it’s been amazing!}
25. Go a whole month without alcohol {Done! I did dry January!}
26. Go to at least one new country {Done! We just had an amazing holiday in Hawaii! Whilst I have been to the U.S. before, Hawaii is pretty different to the lower 48!}
27. Have breakfast in bed {Had a delicious breakfast in bed of pancakes with maple syrup & fresh winter strawberries! It really was very indulgent & lovely!}
28. Go a week without wearing any makeup {Done! It was so nice to really let my skin breathe for a week, even though I was a little nervous going into work without a stitch of makeup on! The results speak for themselves though…}
29. Cook a Christmas turkey {This Christmas the Mothership, the Bossman & I cooked the turkey together & it was really quite fun! We made up the stuffing as we went along (bit of pistachios here, some cranberries there) & it was delicious! We always BBQ our turkey for Christmas – bit of an Australian thing, I think – & it was succulent & juicy with a nutty sweet stuffing. Perfection!}
30. Go on a hike
31. Make homemade pasta {I’m going to try other types of pasta but, for the time being, I’m super happy I made gnocchi from scratch!}
32. Get at least 8 (if not 9!!) hours of sleep every night for a week {Using my Fitbit tracker I made sure to get into bed early every night last week & totally nailed this goal! I felt so much more rested, although I was suffering from a pretty bad head cold as well – the sleep definitely helped!}
33. Get new glasses {Done! Just got new ones from Oscar Wylee!}
34. Invest in business cards for my blog {Just had these babies made up by the great guys at Moo!}
35. Go through ALL of my clothes & donate everything that needs donating
36. Throw my first proper dinner party – entree, main, dessert, signature cocktail, etc {Done! I threw an Italian Feast-themed dinner party recently – the entree was elevated bruschette with blue cheese, walnuts & honey, the main was a delicious tagliatelle bolognaise, dessert was a blueberry ricotta cake & our signature cocktail were Bellinis}
37. Invest in a classic handbag {Done!
38. Make a drastic hair change {Done! Almost 3 times actually!}
39. Attend a show at Sydney Fashion Week {Done! I recently took in an amazing show during Sydney Fashion Weekend with the Mothership!}
40. Visit a city I’ve never been to before {Done! It was amazing checking out Honolulu for the first time, we’ll be back!}
41. Send out Christmas cards one year {This was so much fun! I found these gorgeous cards with proceeds going towards charity & the reception was lovely! I think this will be a yearly occurrence!}
42. Try acupuncture {Done! I recently tried acupuncture to help ease a little pain in my shoulder – it worked amazingly & was quite the experience!}
43. Throw a themed house party
44. Publish a second ebook {Done! You can find my first one here and my second book is here}
45. Invest in the perfect little black dress. {Just picked up the most classic black dress from J. Crew!}
46. Get a deluxe facial {I had the most beautiful facial while I was in Thailand. It lasted over an hour & involved rosewater which smelled divine. To say my skin looked good afterwards is the understatement of the year! I have to make these a regular thing!}
47. Throw a surprise party for a friend. {We had the most amazing surprise party for one of my good friends for his 30th birthday, complete with aviation costumes!}
48. Watch 4 Audrey Hepburn films {Done! – ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’, ‘Roman Holiday’, ‘Funny Face’ & ‘How To Steal A Million’}
49. Do 5 original photoshoots for the blog {Done!}
50. Attend a polo match
51. Go without red meat for a month {Ok, confession. I did this for a fortnight solid, but even though I was upping my intake of iron from everywhere else, I’m fairly sure I gave myself anaemia! So, a fortnight it is! I’m calling this one ticked off!}
52. Completely record one of my songs {in progress: Almost done with a track called ‘Baby Don’t You Go’!}
53. Lose 5 kgs (at least!)
54. Do the 52 Week Money Challenge
55. See a double feature
56. Go out to a fancy Christmas lunch
57. Have a Melbourne Cup lunch
58. Get a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo Vara’s {Done! I picked up the most beautiful blue pair in the unbelievable mid-year sales!}
59. Grow a house plant (& not let it die) {Check out this adorable one I found at Ikea!}
60. Get a new mobile phone (so desperately needed!) Done! I recently picked up the new iPhone 8 Plus, it’s amazing

62. Make homemade macarons
63. Create a mini-kitchen herb garden {We are growing! Mint, rosemary & parsley going strong!}
64. Go to the outdoor cinema in summer {Done! I watched ‘The Walk’ at the Ben & Jerry’s Outdoor Cinema at Sydney University}
65. Finally make it to the races at one of the seasonal carnivals
66. Go to a wine tasting at a vineyard
67. Have an article published (in a magazine or online) {Done! I’m now a contributor for the fantastic website, Career Girl Daily, & have had not one but three articles published with more on the way! You can check out my articles on my contributor page here.}
68. Invest in beautiful stationery {Done! I recently invested in new business cards & I’ve collected some beautiful desk staples for work} 
69. Buy another pair of Christian Louboutins {Recently purchased these babies!}
70. Buy & wear a real gown to an important event {I recently attended a black tie dinner at the Queen’s Club in the city to celebrate the opening of their newly renovated dining room. You can see my outfit on Instagram here & here  & in this blog post!}
71. Read at least 5 Agatha Christie novels {in progress: 3/5 – Just finished Murder at the Vicarage, The Man In The Brown Suit Peril at End House}
72. Go horse riding again {Done! I had an amazing time recently at Glenworth Valley with one of my girlfriends, can’t wait to go again!}
73. Watch all the films nominated for the Academy Awards Best Picture {in progress for the 2017 nominees: I’ve seen ‘Arrival’, ‘Hell or High Water’, ‘Lion’, ‘La La Land’, ‘Hidden Figures’}
74. Make pizza from scratch {See the recipe here – it’s super easy!}
75. Do a professional photo shoot. {Done! I just had professional photos taken for my work’s website & my LinkedIn page}
76. Make delicious goodies to give to friends and family for Christmas {Done! I made delicious shortbread cookies & peppermint bark to give out to work colleagues & friends & family! The easiest Christmas “shopping” ever!}
77. Go apple picking
78. Get a spiraliser & have zucchini pasta regularly to cut down on dinnertime carbs {Done! I bought this one from Amazon for a steal & we’ve been making zucchini pasta at least two or three times a week!}
79. Carve a pumpkin for Halloween
80. Send at least 10 handwritten notes {in progress 5/10}
81. Meal plan at least my breakfast, lunch & snacks every week for a month {This is now habit which is great! Simple salads for lunch, fruit for snacks & a delicious slice of rye toast for breakfast. Easy!}
82. Learn First Aid {Done as part of my day job!}
83. Bake a cake & decorate it with fondant {I made this super cute cake for my cat’s first birthday – i.e. a reason to get some cat lovers together for a fun summer BBQ!}
84. Make & eat S’mores (camping not necessarily required!)
85. Indulge in a whole day at a spa {Just had a lovely experience at the Ayurve Spa}
86. Try a juice detox {Done! This was so tough & to be honest, I wasn’t a huge fan! Not sure if I’ll do one again!}
87. Get a Burberry trench coat {Done! You’ll see it on the blog soon!}
88. Celebrate Thanksgiving for the first time {I’m going to call this one done! We experienced Thanksgiving in Hawaii &, whilst we didn’t go down the whole turkey, pumpkin pie route, we did watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV!}
89.
