I feel like every time I write this year-ending wrap-up post that I say something along the lines of “this year was tough, there were upheavals, good times and bad, but I’m super excited for next year”. I recently read through my 2015 and 2016 post and it’s like the same copy but just about a different year!
It’s funny though because those years almost pale in significance to 2017. I mean, we sold our home! I’d lived there for 16 years and now somebody else owns it! They’ll probably paint over the jacaranda-blue paint in the bedroom and the red ceiling in the dining room, they might cover the beautiful jarrah floorboards with carpet that’s nothing like our Persian rugs and they probably won’t have two cats chasing each other around.
I also spent the entire year working for the same company which is something I haven’t done since 2014 – says a lot about that amazing company and the people I work with though! Speaking of amazing people, so many good friends became best friends this year – you know who you are and I love you!
But I think the biggest thing about 2017 is actually going to happen in 2018. Despite Sydney’s crazy property market, I’ll be soon buying my first apartment and Frank and I will move in to our new place. It’s such a huge deal and I’m fully aware of how lucky I am to be able to do this and trust me when I say I don’t take it for granted for one second. I can’t wait to show you all when it’s ready…
But one promise: my new (back then) job took me by surprise in 2017 and I posted way less than I usually would. That will 100% change in 2018, I can assure you!
I hope you all had a beautiful holiday season and an amazing NYE! To close off 2017, here’s a round-up of some of the things I got up to this year…
We saw 2016 off with a bang at a friends place in Kirribilli – prime viewing for watching the fireworks shooting off the Harbour Bridge!
In January I was introduced to the most amazing café, called Local Mbassy. They do, hands-down, the best matcha lattes as well as red velvet lattes (you read that right) and this towering stack of deliciousness – red velvet pancakes with strawberries and molten white chocolate. Amazing.
In February we went out to lunch at Icebergs at Bondi Beach for my birthday. I couldn’t help but pull out my birthday-present-to-myself, these gorgeous blue Valentino Rockstuds. I’d wanted a pair of these forever and, believe it or not, I found these babies on eBay! You can see the whole post here.
In March, the Mothership and I went to see Adele live in concert. It was such a magical evening – her voice really is almost from another planet, it’s so good!
In April I went back to having red hair (somehow forgetting how much maintenance is involved!).
In May I couldn’t help but share these gorgeous Illesteva sunglasses with you all in this post. Plus this cold shoulder, tie-up sweater? I practically wore it all winter I loved it so much!
In June we went out for a celebratory dinner at one of my favourite places in Sydney – Felix Bistro.
July was filled to the brim with lots of breakfasts out in the sun to keep warm (Sydney does get a little chilly in the wintertime!).
In August the Mothership and I headed off to 9 To Thrive, an inspiring day full of amazing panel discussions put on by Business Chicks.
In September we sold!! We were all very nervous as the Sydney property market can be very dicey but we got above what we wanted which was definitely cause for celebration (and champagne!).
In October we went out for a very fancy formal dinner which I was super excited for! Not only did I get a chance to wear this stunning dress but I also wore my brand new (kind-of) vintage Chanel bag as well!
In November we bought an apartment! Now that the new family home was purchased, we now brought our attention to our next big purchase – my apartment! That’ll be getting found and bought in 2018 but gosh this was a very happy night!
And finally, December. We’d moved into our new home on the 13th and then a week later we were all on holidays and boy, did we take the whole holiday thing seriously. We literally camped out at the beach (okay, maybe not literally but you get what I mean), going back and forth to Tamarama Beach (IMO the best beach in Sydney – forget Bondi, it’s too crowded!!) to soak up the sun and take a dip in the unbelievably refreshing water. Now that we live 15 minutes from this paradise, I think I know what I’ll be doing for the rest of the Australian summer.
Happy New Year to you all and if you need me, come down to Tama!
